Stainless steel flanges are commonly used in pipeline construction projects due to their high strength, stable performance, resistance to corrosion, and excellent durability. Stainless steel flanges do not necessarily require stainless steel bolts; however, stainless steel bolts are often chosen for ease of disassembly (since carbon steel bolts tend to rust). Due to insufficient forging pressure or holding time, the forged flange is subjected to free crystallization conditions, resulting in shrinkage cavities. Moreover, a high gas content during forging causes evolved gases to enter these cavities, and the matrix surrounding the cavities often exhibits numerous cracks. Therefore, to prevent these defects in flanges, it is crucial to select appropriate forging pressure and holding time.
